Pastor GW Dameron was born and
raised in Virginia. After moving in 1991, he
never thought he would return. For eleven
years, he lived in Southern California content to
spend the rest of his life with his family
ministering on the West Coast.
In January 2008, God began moving powerfully in
Pastor GW's life speaking to him of new territory
and a "new mission". When he and his wife
began praying and fasting together to seek God's
will, Culpeper was put on Pastor GW's heart.
It had been years since Pastor GW had been to
Culpeper; so it was a little surprising to receive
Culpeper as the mission ground for his new calling.
In March and April, Pastor GW and his family
traveled to Culpeper to "spy the land" and seek
housing. They conducted meetings with local
leaders in the community and spent time allowing for
those unscheduled, divine appointments. It was
becoming clear there was a need in Culpeper for a
new church, and God's vision began to be revealed to
Pastor GW with clarity and specificity. God
impressed upon Pastor GW's heart that the community
of Culpeper was to be like a city set on a hill
offering refuge for those who needed healing,
encouragement and help. Instead of people
moving to Culpeper because of its proximity to major
metropolitan areas or inexpensive home prices,
people needed to be drawn to Culpeper because of the
light shining from the Body of Christ within this
community.
After much prayer and planning, Pastor GW and his
family moved from Southern California to Culpeper in
June 2008. Arriving on Father's Day, they
settled into their home with the dreams of
furthering God's Kingdom in Culpeper through City on
a Hill Church.
City on a Hill Church was launched in the
Dameron's home on August 2, 2008. In
September, the church began hosting its Saturday
evening service at Sycamore Park Elementary School.
On November 1, 2008 the church found a new
permanent home located at 405 Sperryville Pike.
This building was a former funeral home with the
perfect size sanctuary for a start-up church.
Within one year, the Lord grew our church too large
for that facility and we were on the move again.
This time to a much larger newer building that
formerly housed a retail tractor business.
Where God takes us from here, only He knows!
But we're willing to follow...
